Is Priority Pass Worth It? The Honest Lounge Check 2026
Short answer: Priority Pass is worth it if you fly at least 6 times a year, often have layovers, and do NOT own a premium travel credit card with lounge access. For occasional flyers taking 1 to 2 trips a year, it costs too much. And many people don’t need it at all, because their travel credit card already includes the access for free.
You’re sitting at the gate, your connecting flight is three hours out, and everyone around you is fighting over the few power outlets. That’s exactly when a quiet lounge with free coffee, Wi-Fi and a comfy chair starts to sound great. Priority Pass promises just that: access to over 1,700 lounges worldwide with a single membership. But is it actually worth it, or are you paying for a promise that overcrowded lounges can’t keep?
What does Priority Pass actually cost?
Priority Pass offers three tiers. Prices vary by region, but here’s a rough guide (in USD):
- Standard: around 99 USD per year. You pay about 35 USD per visit, including for yourself. No free visits included.
- Standard Plus: around 329 USD per year. 10 free visits included, then about 35 USD per visit.
- Prestige: around 469 USD per year. Unlimited free visits for you.
One thing many people miss: guests ALWAYS cost around 35 USD per person, in every tier. So if you travel with a partner and a kid, it adds up fast. For reference, a single day pass to a lounge without a membership runs about 25 to 65 USD, depending on the airport.
At what point does the membership pay off?
Let’s get specific. The Prestige tier with unlimited visits costs around 140 USD more than Standard Plus. At roughly 35 USD per extra visit, Prestige only pays off from around 13 lounge visits a year. Very few people hit that.
If you fly 4 to 6 times a year, often with one layover, Standard Plus usually works out cheaper. The 10 free visits cover most realistic travel plans. Only if you’re constantly on the road for work, or you genuinely love long layover trips, does Prestige win. Be honest about how often you’d actually use a lounge, not how often you’d like to.
Don’t I already get lounge access through my credit card?
This is the single most important question. Many premium travel credit cards already include a Priority Pass membership (often called “Priority Pass Select”). If you hold a card like that, you usually don’t need a separate membership.
So before you spend a cent, check your wallet first. A good travel credit card bundles lounge access, insurance and miles into one package. In our roundup of the best travel credit cards 2026 we show which cards include lounge access. A real-world note: with some cards, the restaurant and dining credit inside lounges was cut in 2023 and 2024. Read the fine print for your specific card.
Where are the real weak spots?
Honesty matters here, otherwise you buy a letdown. Priority Pass has genuine downsides:
Lounges are often overcrowded. According to Priority Pass itself, lounges can deny entry when they’re at capacity. During peak hours you can end up locked out despite your membership. Not every airport even has a participating lounge, and in the US the selection is noticeably more limited than in Europe or Asia. On top of that, the once-popular restaurant credit was removed for many cards. So if you were counting on free food in the lounge restaurant, you may be out of luck.
Is Priority Pass worth it for you? The decision grid
Worth it if:
- you fly 6 or more times a year
- you often have layovers and long waits
- you do NOT own a credit card with lounge access
- you depart from airports with good Priority Pass lounges
NOT worth it if:
- you only take 1 to 2 flights a year
- you mostly fly short-haul without long connections
- you already hold a premium card with lounge access
- your home airports have no Priority Pass lounge

FAQ
Are guests free with Priority Pass?
No. Guests cost around 35 USD per person per visit in every tier. Even on the Prestige tier, where you enter unlimited and free, you pay extra for companions. If you often travel as a couple, factor that into the math.
Will Priority Pass always get me into a lounge?
No. Lounges can turn members away when they’re full, and not every lounge participates. For important trips, build in a plan B and never rely on the lounge alone.
Is Priority Pass worth it, or should I just get a credit card?
For most people, a travel credit card with included lounge access is the better choice, because you get lounge, insurance and miles in one package. A standalone Priority Pass membership is mainly worth it if you don’t have a suitable card or you fly a lot.
