How far in advance? For high season (June to September, December to February): book 3 to 6 months ahead. Popular months sell out weeks after availability opens. In low season (March to May, October to November) last-minute permits are sometimes available.
Cancellation policy: 25 percent fee up to 30 days before the date. No refund after that.

What else is there to do in Rwanda beyond gorilla trekking?
Nyungwe Forest National Park in the southwest: one of Africa’s oldest rainforests. Chimpanzee trekking (permit $100), colobus monkeys, forest trails. The Canopy Walkway (a suspension bridge through the tree canopy, 70 meters high) is unique in Africa.
Lake Kivu on the western border: one of Africa’s most beautiful lakes. Hills, tea plantations, fishing boats. Gisenyi and Kibuye are relaxed stops.
